The Beef. It's What's For Dinner. 300 is a 300-mile (480 km) NASCAR Xfinity Series (formerly Whelen Modified Tour) race held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
In 1959, when Daytona was built, the track was added onto the Modified schedule as a combination event with the Late Model Sportsman Series. This continued until 1968, when the race solely became a LMS event. From 1979 onward, the race became the season opener for the Xfinity Series season.
In 1966, Permatex began sponsoring the event. It was only the 2nd NASCAR race ever to be named a corporate sponsor.
Drivers from the Cup Series commonly ran this race to gain experience for the next day's Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart both have won 7 Xfinity Series races at Daytona, a record for the event. However, after NASCAR limited the starts of Cup Series drivers in lower divisions, this practice has become much less common.
