Tommy Thompson, born April 22, 1922, was a former NASCAR driver from Louisville, KY. He competed in twenty-two Sprint Cup events in his career prior to dying on August 4, 1986.
After finishing without a top-ten in his first year in 1950, Thompson shocked the sport in just his second career start. Leading 58 of the laps at Michigan State Fairgrounds, Thompson went onto a 37-second victory over Joe Eubanks. It was Thompson's only career victory.
After that, Thompson only had three more top-tens, his last coming with a 3rd place finish at the infamous Daytona Beach Road Course in 1953. He would race in the circuit until 1959 but never produced noteworthy finishes after his early years.
