Tide is a popular brand of laundry detergent sold by Procter & Gamble. It is the highest selling detergent brand in the World. In NASCAR, a car sponsored by Tide is usually nicknamed the "Tide Ride"

A Tide-sponsored car played a key role in several major moments in Cup Series History- They sponsored Darrell Waltrip during his first and only Daytona 500 win in 1989, Ricky Rudd during his Brickyard 400 win in 1997, and Ricky Craven when he won the 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 at Darlington in the closest finish in NASCAR history.

Tide-sponsored cars usually have a similar primary paint scheme- an orange front, a yellow semi-circle from in front of the rear wheel to the roof or rear glass, and a white decklid, quarter panels, and rear bumper, with oversized Tide wordmarks on the quarter panels and an oversized Tide logo on the hood.

Cup Series History:[]

Tide first sponsored the #17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy driven by Darrell Waltrip from 1987-1990. After Waltrip left Hendrick Motorsports to form his own team, Tide stayed with Hendrick and moved to the #5 Chevrolet driven by Ricky Rudd, from 1991 to 1993. When Rudd also left Hendrick to form his own team, Tide followed Rudd to the #10 Rudd Performance Motorsports Ford, and sponsored his team throughout its operation, until its closure at the conclusion of the 1999 season.

In 2000, Tide moved to sponsor Cal Wells' PPI Motorsports #32 team. The #32 was chosen by Wells by adding the previous 3 Tide team's numbers together (#17, #5, #10). They stayed with PPI Motorsports during its entire existence, sponsoring various drivers including Scott Pruett, Ricky Craven, Bobby Hamilton Jr, and Travis Kvapil. Following the 2006 season, Tide would leave NASCAR full time sponsorship.

Tide returned to NASCAR Cup Series sponsorship in a limited, race-by-race fashion in 2016. They sponsored Matt Kenseth and the #20 Joe Gibbs Racing team for 1 race in 2016 and 4 races in 2017. In 2019 and 2020, they sponsored Ryan Preece and the #37 JTG-Daugherty team for 1 race each season. In 2021 and 2022, they sponsored Erik Jones and the #43 Petty Team for 1 race each season, before moving to Justin Haley and the #31 Kaulig Racing team for 2023 for 1 race. They also appear as partner brands on Kroger-sponsored cars, primarily fielded by JTG-Daugherty Racing.

Xfinity Series History:[]

Tide sponsored Darrell Waltrip's Xfinity team for 6 races in 1987. They also sponsored Andrew Ranger for 4 races in 2008, and appear as a partner brand on Menards sponsored cars driven by Paul Menard and Brandon Jones, from 2010 through 2018.

Truck Series History:[]

In the Truck Series, Tide sponsored Anthony Lazzaro for 1 race in 2000, before returning to sponsor Darrell Waltrip in 1 race in 2002 and 2 races in 2003. From 2009 through 2012, Tide appeared as a partner brand for Menards and Kroger sponsored trucks, driven by Matt Crafton, Kevin Harvick, Ron Hornaday Jr, and Clint Bowyer. Since 2015, they are a partner brand for Food Country USA sponsored trucks, first sponsoring Caleb Holman in 2015, and Parker Kligerman in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023.
