Subway is a restaurant chain with locations throughout the United States. They last sponsored the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford driven by Kevin Harvick in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Cup Series history[]
Subway began sponsoring race cars in 2001, when it sponsored Kenny Wallace's No. 27 Eel River Racing Pontiac at Talladega Superspeedway. However, Wallace did not qualify and the sponsorship transferred over to the No. 51 Phoenix Racing Ford driven by Jeff Purvis. For many years, they sponsored Roush Fenway Racing, first with the No. 16 of Greg Biffle, and then with the No. 99 of Carl Edwards. For the 2015 season, Edwards moved to Joe Gibbs Racing. Subway decided to move to JGR with Edwards.
In 2017, Edwards retired from the sport and Daniel Suárez took over as the driver of the No. 19 Toyota. On September 2, 2017, it was reported that Subway had dropped their sponsorship of Suárez with one race left to go in the four race sponsorship deal with the driver. It was later confirmed that the reason Subway terminated their deal with Suárez was because of a segment Suárez did on a pre-race telecast where he handed out Dunkin' Donuts to fans, which was seen as a conflict of interest.[1]
Subway eventually returned to sponsor the No. 4 of Kevin Harvick in 2021 and again in 2022.
