Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, administrators can access a few additional functions.
Administrator abilities
These additional functions include:
- Deleting and undeleting pages, page histories, and uploaded files
- Deleting, restoring, editing, locking, and unlocking message wall threads
- Locking (protecting) a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights or autoconfirmed status
- Blocking IP addresses or usernames from editing
- Very quick "rollback" of undesirable edits
- Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins
- Customizing achievement badges
- Promoting other users to discussion moderator and rollback
Bureaucrat abilities
A bureaucrat can promote other users to bureaucrat, administrator, or moderator on their own wiki
Bureaucrats can also give users the ability to "rollback" edits not made in good faith
Moderator abilities
Content Moderators have additional functions available to moderate specific parts of the community. These functions are:
- Editing and moving fully protected pages
- Deleting and restoring pages and files
- Editing and moving protected files
- Protecting and unprotecting pages
- Rollback
- Patrolling pages
- Deleting and restoring article and blog comments
- Deleting, restoring, editing, locking, and unlocking message wall threads
Discussion Moderators have additional functions available to manage conversations in various features across the community where users are having discussions. These functions are:
- Removing and restoring threads and replies created by any user
- Closing and reopening replies
- Deleting blog comments
- Editing and deleting article comments
- Moderating the Discussion board
