Satch Worley (June 2, 1948 - ) is a former NASCAR driver from Rocky Mount, VA. He was a star in the Whelen Modified Tour, but also competed in five Sprint Cup Series events and nine Nationwide Series events in his career.
Sprint Cup[]
Worley made his debut in NASCAR's top division during the 1974 season, competing at Martinsville for Arrington Racing. Worley took advantage of his solid equipment, starting 15th and making his way to 9th by day's end despite late driveshaft woes.
Worley's other four Cup races came during the 1978 season, when he drove for Beebe Racing to finish 50th in points. It was another solid year for the Virginian, finishing no worse than 18th that year. Highlights included a career-best 9th place run at Pocono, a 14th in his first start at Dover, and an 18th at Daytona International Speedway's July classic.
Nationwide Series[]
Worley then transferred to the Nationwide Series (then Busch Series) during the 1982 season. He struggled in his initial series race, falling out to 30th at Charlotte. Worley quickly interjected a career-best 7th place run at Rockingham before struggling to 21st at Caraway and 27th at Charlotte in the fall to close out the year.
Worley's final five Nationwide races came during the 1983 season, when he wound up finishing 48th in points. Arrington again found a season of mixed results, with three finishes of fifteenth or better interspersed with two DNFs. His best run of the year was a 13th at Dover, followed by a 15th at Charlotte in May and Daytona. The DNFs struck hard when they did occur, leaving him 28th at Rockingham and 25th at the October Charlotte race, which was his final career race.
