John McVitty (December 26, 1926 - April 21, 1956) was a NASCAR driver from Mamaroneck, NY. He competed in eleven Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning three top-tens.
McVitty's debut came in 1955, when he finished 48th in points. McVitty got off to a fantastic start, finishing 8th in his series debut at Fonda and then matching that 8th place run at Plattsburg. Even though he failed to crack the top-ten the rest of the year, McVitty didn't fall of at all, earning top-twenty finishes each time he hit the track during the season. This included a finish of 13th in a deep field at Raleigh and a 17th on the tough short track at North Wilkesboro.
McVitty's final four races came in 1956. Yet again, McVitty ran respectably well, finishing in the top-twenty in each of his starts. McVitty DNFed twice, but still earned one top-ten during the year - a 10th at Palm Beach before ending his career with a 20th place run at North Wilkesboro. He would be killed in a racing accident thirteen days later at Langhorne Speedway.
