John Andretti (March 12, 1963 - January 30, 2020) was a NASCAR Cup Series driver of the #34 Window World Chevrolet for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. He is the nephew of open-wheel racing legend Mario Andretti and cousin of Mario's son Michael. He formerly drove the #10 FreedomRoads/Camping World Ford for Ppc Racing. Kenny Wallace is his teammate and he drives the #22 Autozone Ford. John has 339 Sprint Cup Series starts with two wins. His first win came while driving for Cale Yarborough in 1997 at Daytona International Speedway, and his second while driving for Richard Petty (Petty Enterprises) in 1999 at Martinsville Speedway. In 2003 and 2004, Andretti started several races in the #1 Dale Earnhardt Incorporated car. In late 2004 and early 2005, Andretti started a handful of Cup races for the now-defunct #14 Ppc Racing cup team, as well as Morgan-McClure Motorsports later in the 2005 season. In 2005, John also had four starts in the #15 Billy Ballew Motorsports truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2006 John Andretti started running in the NASCAR Nationwide Series as a rookie. Driving for the RV.com Ford for Greg Pollex. John has recorded 1 top 5 and 4 top 10s. He also sits 13th in points through 31 races.

Andretti has also competed in the Indianapolis 500 seven times, with his best finish of 5th in 1991. In 1994, he became the first person to compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.

NASCAR[]

Andretti made his NASCAR debut in 1993 driving the #72 Tex Racing Chevrolet for Tex Powell, he only raced 4 races, his first race at the Tyson/Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway he started 31st and finished 24th. In 1994 he piloted the #14 Finacial World Chevrolet for Billy Hagan, he had 3 top ten starts and a best finish of 11th.

John's father is Aldo Andretti, twin brother of Mario Andretti. His godfather is the legendary driver A.J. Foyt. His brother is Adam Andretti.

Death[]

Andretti died on January 30, 2020, of colon cancer.
