Furniture Row Racing was a stock car racing team owned by Barney Visser and operated by Denver, Colorado-based furniture store chain Furniture Row. The team last fielded the #78 Bass Pro Shops/5-hour Energy Toyota full-time for Martin Truex, Jr. in the Monster Energy Cup Series. The team had a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing. FRR was one of the few NASCAR teams based outside of North Carolina.
The team was operated by the Colorado based furniture store chain Furniture Row. It made its NASCAR debut in the Busch Series at Nashville Superspeedway in 2005 with Jerry Robertson driving, starting 24th and finishing 33rd. Robertson ran ten races with the team in 2005, his best finish being a 22nd at California Speedway. The team made two NEXTEL Cup appearances as well, with Kenny Wallace debuting the team at Dover International Speedway, and Robertson running at Phoenix International Raceway.
Wallace was scheduled to drive the first five races in 2006 and Robertson filling out the rest of the schedule. At the 2006 Daytona 500, Kenny Wallace failed to put the #78 Furniture Row car in the field. Wallace qualified for the next two races, at California Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, finishing 41st and 38th. However, the performance of the team was not good enough to make the top 35 in points, and the team is only making half of the races. Robertson will not race for the team this year, while Kenny Wallace, Jimmy Spencer (select races) and Travis Kvapil (at road courses) will continue to drive in the Cup Series. Robertson, instead, will compete in select Busch Series events, probably around ten or so. Kenny Wallace continued in 2007 with a slightly improved performance including 2 6th place starts at Talladega and Darlington. Kenny left after Watkins Glen with Scott Wimmer and Sterling Marlin each attempting a race each. Joe Nemechek attempted and made Fontana and ran for the rest of the season. Later on the team got a deal to receive Hendrick engines which slightly boosted performances.
Regan Smith drove for the team in 2012. Kurt Busch signed with the team for one year and raced in 2013 with them. After NAPA left Martin Truex, Jr. after 2013, Truex signed with Furniture Row for the 2014 Sprint Cup Series. For the 2016 season, FRR switched from Chevrolet to Toyota. In 2017, FRR added a second car to the team with Erik Jones as the driver and sponsorship from 5-hour Energy as a one-year deal. In the same year Truex, Jr. won the first championship for Furniture Row Racing, beating runner-up Kyle Busch by 5 points.
After failing to find enough funding to remain competitive, the team ceased operations after the 2018 season.
