Corky Cookman (November 3, 1943, July 19, 1987) was born in Green Farms, CT. He drove in the Whelen Modified Tour Series, and he would win one race each in 1986 and in 1987. However, Cookman ran 24 out of the 25 races the second year. In a race at Thompson Motor Speedway, he suffered fatal head injuries after slamming into the wall. He was 43 years old.
