Clifford Allison

Clifford Allison (October 20, 1964 - August 13, 1992) was a NASCAR driver from Hueytown, AL. He competed in twenty-two Nationwide Series (then Busch Series) events in his career prior to his tragic death in a practice crash at Michigan. An aggressive racing competitor Clifford began his racing career at the age of 19 in the Late Model Division at Birmingham International Raceway. Working alongside his father from an early age, Clifford's desire to race came naturally. While working his way through the short tracks he dominated the Late Model Division , Winning the Montgomery International Raceway Track Championship in 1987. Clifford also managed to crew chief his brother Davey to a 2nd place points finish in the 1985 ARCA Series Championship. He holds an impressive driving record including 4 victories, 56 top five finishes, and 36 top ten finishes. Competing in the Nascar ALL- PRO Series, he holds many "Top 5 Finish" and 7 "Hard Charger Awards". In 1989 he qualified 5th in his first ARCA Series race at Atlanta. Challengingthe BUSCH Grand National Circuit wit 6 races in 1990. He had impressive finishes including 13th at Daytona International Speedway. Going into the 1991 Busch Grand National Circuit he finished 6th at Bristol. The young Alabama Gang member proved with incredible determination and remarkable talent that the1992 Racing season would be his best ever. With Winston Cup Racing in mind, Clifford missiled his race car around tracks all around the United States driving the Busch Grand National Circuit, and the ARCA Series Divisions he held an impressive driving record of 2 outside poles at Texas World Speedway & Pocono Speedway. 4 Top-Five finishes, 7 Top-ten finishes by August 1992 he had driven the #12 race car to First Place in the Super Speedway points. Clifford also holds the title of Daytona Challenge Winner for ARCA Cars in 1992.

A highlight of Clifford's career was serving as crew chief for his father in the 1988 Busch Grand National Series. It was a father and son combination, winning the Goody's 300 at Daytona. They also secured a 2nd place finish at Australia's famous "Thunderdome". On a personal note Clifford enjoyed working at his shop at his home in Hueytown, spending time with his wife Elisa and his children, Brandon, Leslie, and Tanya Allison. His hobbies included water sports including sking, Hydro sliding, fishing, motorcycling and video games. Clifford's racing career would be cut short by a fatal accident on the track. While racing would lose one of it's best , Clifford will always remain a true champion in the hearts of those that knew him on the track and off.
