Bobby Cameron- 1949 NASCAR New York State Champion

Bob Cameron (December 18, 1927 -June 4 1960 ) was a former NASCAR driver from Kenmore, NY. He competed in many Super Modified Grand National Cup Series events in his career.

Cameron was the NASCAR New York State Champion in 1949 when he won the 50 lap Vernon Championship race at the Vernon Speedway in Vernon New York held on October 30th, 1949Royrizzo (talk) 17:01, February 15, 2016 (UTC). He raced at the new Hamburg. NASCAR grand National Super Modified 110 lap race - Starting positions in the field of 50 are unknown, but Cameron struggled in the race and wound-up 14th. due to car trouble.

Notes: Bobby Cameron also raced under the alias of "Bobby Mack" and Bob Carran He died at the Lancaster Raceway in Lancaster, New York, when his super modified rolled and burned after hitting another race car that was entering the track. His car flew into the air and landed tail-first, rupturing the gas tank. The cars were preparing for the start of a race.

Cameron, who lived at 16 S. Nicholas Dr. in Tonawanda, New York, a suburb of Buffalo, worked as a distributor for the Buffalo Courier-Express. He was a former NASCAR official and had been the winner of first ever Spencer Speedway feature at that track outside Rochester in 1955. He had won the New York State points championship, and competed at many tracks in the area, such as Brewerton and Oswego, as well as the State Fairgrounds track in Syracuse.

Bob Cameron competed in many races in New York State as well as PA, North and South Carolina, Maryland and competed in the Daytona 500 when the race was held on the beach in 1957 and 1958.
