Axalta Coating Systems (formerly known as DuPont Performance Coatings, and DuPont Automotive Finishes) are a coatings company that develops and manufactures coatings for light and commercial vehicles, industrial, and refinish applications. They sponsor the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driven by William Byron in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The company most famously sponsored four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, a relationship which dates back when Gordon first debuted in 1992. ACS was originally the coatings division of DuPont, with which HMS had a contract. In 2013, DuPont sold its coatings division to The Carlyle Group, where it became Axalta.
During Axalta's sponsorship of Hendrick Motorsports, they provided paint for the entire team, along with Kyle Busch Motorsports, JR Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing. It was often speculated that this paint assisted Hendrick Motorsports at Daytona and Talladega, as the team often hand-painted the cars used during these races to improve aerodynamic efficiency. This aspect of the sponsorship ended in 2022 when NASCAR mandated that Next Gen cars must be wrapped in vinyl to aid in inspections.
