Alltel (stylized as alltel) was a telecommunications provider that was founded in 1943.
In 1999, Alltel began sponsoring Phil Parsons full-time in the Busch Grand National Series. They also became the title sponsor of the spring BGN series race at Rockingham Speedway, a sponsorship which would last until 2001. Just a year later, however, the company also began sponsoring rookie Jimmie Johnson. In the same year, Alltel also sponsored Ryan Newman. In 2001, both Parsons and Johnson were no longer sponsored by Alltel, although Newman's partnership with the sponsor stuck even as he moved into the NASCAR Cup Series full-time in 2002. However, in June of 2008, Alltel merged with Verizon Wireless. After the season ended, Newman parted ways with Penske Racing and Alltel's sponsorship of the team ended. In 2009 and 2010, AT&T and Atlantic Tele-Network purchased the remnants of the company. In 2016, AT&T dissolved Alltel.
