The 2008 Auto Club 500 was a Sprint Cup Series event held at California Speedway on February 25, 2008. It was a very wet weekend, with qualifying rained out and numerous delays finally pushing the race back to Monday afternoon. It was an even worse weekend for Carl Edwards, whose motorcoach crashed en route to the race. But when all was said and done Edwards found his patience rewarding, taking the lead for good with 14 laps to go and holding off Jimmie Johnson for the victory. Jeff Gordon (3rd) maintained his spot despite a last-lap engine failure. Kyle Busch (4th) took the points lead by six on Ryan Newman (10th). Stats
