The 2001 Pepsi 400 was a Winston Cup Series (now Monster Energy Cup) event held at Daytona International Speedway on July 7, 2001. It was the first Cup event held on NBC. Dale Earnhardt, Jr returning to the track where his father had died just months earlier, scored an emotional victory, leading 116 of the 160 laps and holding off teammate Michael Waltrip. The win was dedicated to Earnhardt, Sr. A crash that sidelined Jeff Gordon to 37th cut Gordon's points lead on Dale Jarrett (11th) to 48 markers. Stats
