- During a crash with Jeff Purvis and Michael Waltrip, Andy Santerre suffered a broken leg that caused him to miss the first half of the season.
- The race ended with a spectacular crash by 18-year-old Casey Atwood. His car flipped over several times in the tri-oval on the front straightawy, but he walked away unscathed.
