The 1988 TranSouth 500 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Darlington Speedway on March 27, 1988. Lake Speed led 178 of the 367 laps in route to a surpising 18.8-second victory on Alan Kulwicki, Speed's only career triumph.
