The Race::1983 Winston Western 500 was a Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup) - Winston West Series (now ) combination event held at Track::Riverside International Raceway on November 20, 1983. It was the season finale for the Cup drivers. Bill Elliott led just five laps, but rolled away to his first career victory, holding off Benny Parsons. Bobby Allison's 9th place finish gave him his long-awaited championship, holding off Darrell Waltrip (6th) by 47 markers. The race was broadcasted live on TBS. Ken Squier and Cale Yarborough commentated the event.
