The 1978 Capital City 400 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Richmond International Raceway on September 10, 1978. Polesitter Darrell Waltrip stormed back to the lead with a few laps to go and held off Bobby Allison by one second for his sixth and final victory of the year. Points leader Cale Yarborough finished 4th and held a 298-point championship lead on Benny Parsons (6th). Stats
