The 1971 Myers Brothers 250 was a Winston Cup Series (now NASCAR Cup) and Grand American combination event held at Bowman-Gray Stadium on August 6, 1971. Bobby Allison dominated the race, leading 138 of the 250 laps en route to a three-second victory on Richard Petty, the eventual season champ. This wound up as a controversial win in the annals of NASCAR statistics. Allison, as he was driving a Grand American car, was never credited with this victory in the Cup Series record book. This decision would be finally reversed 53 years later in 2024, with Allison being declared the official winner of the race.
