The 1967 Grand National Series was the 19th season of the NASCAR Grand National Series. The season began with the Augusta 300 at Augusta Speedway on November 13, 1966 and ended with the Western North Carolina 500 at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway on November 5, 1967.
Richard Petty won his second championship in his seventh full time season and became the seventh two-time champion. En route to his title, he won a record 27 times in a single season, including a record 10 wins in a row between August 12 and October 1. He also won 19 poles and had an average starting position of 2.4 in the season.
Petty’s dominance caused several changes in the Ford factory effort, including causing Junior Johnson to release driver Darel Dieringer in favor of LeeRoy Yarbrough, Bobby Allison being hired to drive for Holman-Moody and David Pearson leaving Cotton Owens’ team to drive for Holman-Moody.
