The 1965 Grand National Series was the 17th season of the NASCAR Grand National Series. The season began with the Motor Trend 500 at Riverside International Raceway on January 17 and ended with the Tidewater 300 at Dog Track Speedway on November 7.
Ned Jarrett won his second championship in sixth and final full time season, with 13 wins. He had a streak of 19 straight top-10 finishes and won the Southern 500 by 14 laps.
The season was notable for a boycott by Chrysler over a NASCAR rule package that banned the hemi engine. Drivers Richard Petty and David Pearson also temporarily left the sport due to the ban, which was reversed by July of the season. NASCAR lifted Curtis Turner’s lifetime ban during the early part of the season in part to respond to the damage done by the Chrysler boycott.
